Night had already fallen and the only thing preventing the forest from being shrouded in complete darkness was the pitiful sliver of moon hanging low in the sky. Beneath the thick canopy of trees padded a partially soaked kit enjoying the feeling of cool mud beneath her paws. The pink-air hid from the bitter cold by staying protected under the pines where snow ceased to reach. She had no intention of night hunting. She had only hunted once before and with the aid of a fire-triber. The thought that a mere kit with such little experience catching something this late in winter was almost laughable. She simply liked the calm of her mind “Hi mom. I hope you’re okay up there with the spirits, Say hi to Crowie for me.” She mumbled. Reluctantly, she tore her gaze from the sky and continued forwards. With a long stretch, she began to make a nest in the roots of an ancient pine. She slipped into a half-conscious doze.

Cadence trotted briskly among the frostbitten trees of the Rabbits Forest, the chilly air clinging to her pelt and making her shiver. Ice hung in the air in small exhaled clouds as she glanced nervously at her surroundings. The darkness of night had descended upon her suddenly and she had lost her way. All the trees looked the same, and no matter how far she went, it seemed like she was going in circles. She glanced up throu8gh the criss-crossed branches overhead at the stars, hoping to find comfort in the milky mixture of light. She continued walking in the direction she hoped was the route to the exit. The wind echoed among the trees and Cadence quickened her pace. She despised the darkness that surrounded her.

Storm was ripped out of her dreamy half-sleep by the sound of frantic paw steps. “Who else is out here? Or what?” she quickly stood and examined the endless expanse of trees. The vague silhouette of a cat appeared in the distance. Using the wind which fortunately traveled in her direction, she was able to scent water-tribe. With a jolt, Strom clawed her way up a younger pine whose bark was softer and easier to grip. The pink-air only climbed to the first branch she passed her small frame and dark coat would sufficiently help her blend into the night. The mysterious cat in the distance continues forward. Storm knew that he eyes were growing wider and she shrunk back against the tree the crackle of dead foliage and slosh of cold mud grew louder. Storm held her breath and waited, fear sent coming off her in waves.

Cadence continued at her quick pace for as long as she could, but soon her legs grew tired and she slowed down. Her strides became noticeably shorter as time went by, and her body was giving out on her. She stopped to catch her breath momentarily, her paws numb from running on the frozen ground. Her ears flicked back in alarm as she heard a rustle in a tree nearby, her heart nearly leaping from her chest. She had not the energy to run or fight, so she lamely flattened herself to the hard cold ground and covered her eyes with her paws. The pink-water’s voice wavered slightly as she pleaded “Whoever is there, p-please do-don’t eat me!” Cadence knew she was certainly small enough to be carried off by an owl or easily be ripped apart by a fox of some sort.

Storm let out a sigh of relief as she saw that the Pink-Water was barely older than she was. Calmly she called out “It’s okay! I’m not gonna eat you! I prefer rabbit anyway!”The Pink-Air leaped from the low branch and examined the younger cat she was probably the youngest cat she had seen since her sister, Chirp, left for Earth-tribe. Her coat was pale brown with stripes. She must be lost because any cat with an ounce energy in them would at least climb a tree if they were threatened. Storm almost chuckled at the cats interesting paw-over-face pose. She shook out her pelt and began grooming her ruffled back fur. The long, rhythmic strokes helped her calm down.

Cadence sat up at the monster’s remark. Removing her paws from her eyes she saw that the monster was not a monster at all, but instead, an Air Tribe she-cat. The Pink-Water ‘s face shone a clear bright red beneath her pale fur “I’m-I’m-err…: Cadence stumbled over her words, not exactly wanting to admit that she was lost, but gave into the shame realizing she had no other option. “I’m Lost” She looked at her paws in humiliation and sighed. She blurted out a few nervous clicks with her mouth, not having the energy to convert them into the tune she would normally hum when she was unsettled. “I was just heading home, then the sun set” She explained.

“Ahh. Yhea not too many cats wander round here making that much noise when they are just going for a stroll. I come out here pretty often. I can show you the way out if ya want.” She said in a surprisingly mature tone considering she was speaking to a cat that was older than her. She turned around and began to walk back the way she had come. She didn’t turn to see if the apprentice was following her or not. However, by the fear scent in the air, she knew the Pink-Water was only paw-steps behind her. “So Pink-Water, what er you doing out this late anyways?” Storm turned around and saw the cat’s eyes glowing like florescent bulbs of green. Cat’s glowing eyes were sometimes the give away to sneak attacks, Spark had told her once. They stand out like sore thumbs.

Cadence was surprised at the young cat’s tone and act of authority. She decided she had never been more embarrassed in her life. A kit was leading her out of the forest and she had no choice other than to fallow behind her. Somewhere behind her she could hear the distant hoot of an owl; she walked faster. The young Air Tribe cat turned slightly and asked a question “ So Pink Water, what are you doing out this late any ways?” Cadence answered honestly “ I was chasing a bird.” It was true, but she had no intent to catch it, she had simply liked the song that type of bird always sang and wanted to find out where they lived so she could listen to them whenever she wanted. It seemed like her breath had finally caught up with her and she felt renewed energy surge threw her legs…
